Player Options If you are a newbie to Q3A, then among the first things you should do is set up your player. To reach the Player Options, click on Setup, then Player. Near the top of the Player Options page is your name. To give yourself a name, type the name in the appropiate box. The default color for the name is white, so if you want to add colors in your name, insert a carrot (Shift+6), choose a number between 1-7, then type in your name. For 1.11/1.16 players, if you want the color black, you have to have an actual carrot show up in front of your name, then do Shift+6 and pick the number 8, and type in your name. For 1.32 OSP players, you don't need an actual carrot in front of your name, you just need to pick the number 0. Back in Quake 1, my friend and I were trying to think of creative names to use. Then we decided that we would think of names of things we hated. I really hate creepy critters, so I thought of the name Insects. Then after some time, I decided to make the name shorter and drop the -cts and replace it with an -x. Hence, I became Insex. No, my name has nothing to do with sex! Too many people get the wrong idea from my name and make believe I'm some kind of pervert. So for the record, my name is just a name, and not a description. Below the name box is the Handicap box. It's best to just leave it to "none." If you adjust the handicap to something like 90 for example, your maximum amount of health you can attain will be 90% of 100. Your shots will also deliver 90% of the damage, instead of the full 100%. Back in the old days, people actually used a handicap in Space maps (like q3tourney6 for example). Just so that if they were shot in the air with a slug from an enemy Railgun, it would kill them instead of nearly killing them, then sending them flying off into the void. Below the Handicap option is the Effects option. This is simply for the railtrail color of your Railgun. Taste the rainbow! To choose what skin you want to use, click on Model in the lower right corner. A new page will display all of the available models and skins to choose from. Each model has at least three skins to choose from, made up of a default skin and two colored skins for team games. There is no advantage of using one model over another in Q3A. All models, however different they may be as far as looks or size, acquire the same invisible target space. So picking a slender model like Mynx is not going to make you a smaller target to hit than someone like Tankjr. My favorite is Bitterman because he is quiet, looks sleek and stealthy, and I also like the mask his colored skins wear. Among my other favorites are Sarge, Doom, Anarki, Grunt, Razor, and Visor. Below is a list of all the models and skins that come with the game: |
